Winter

Yet another Winter storm arrived in Arkansas on Wednesday, February 9th, right on schedule, with the first flakes drifting down around 5 a.m.

Everyone knew it was coming, so of course the stores were mobbed on Monday and Tuesday.  Hardware stores sold out of snow shovels, sleds, salt—all the things most Arkansans do not have.  And the grocery stores were pretty much the same.  The schools, city governments, medical offices—all made preemptive decisions to close, and people were urged just to stay home.

Conditions were not too bad til mid-morning, when it started coming down harder.  (At no time was it a screaming blizzard a la our Ohio days, but it was still pretty thorough.)   By noon it was dangerous.  It continued until after dark, dropping six to eight inches in our area; temperatures were below freezing the whole time.   The sun was out Thursday and Friday, though, so streets  improved, but there was a lot of refreezing with night-time temps near zero.  In our yard, snow has melted in sunny areas.  (Heap of snow to left is from roof.)

My bird-feeder and suet are attracting many birds, of course.

Spring will be VERY welcome when it arrives.
