Thawing Out

The thaw begins....
One extremely helpful aspect of Winter in Arkansas is this:  even when we get snowed under, it doesn't last very long.  After two frigid days of being snowbound, streets began clearing as the sun and rising temperatures worked on the icy conditions.

Here are two pictures, taken one day apart, showing the same general area of the back yard.

24 hours later.....
The heaps of snow that slide off the roof always take considerably longer to melt; the other areas of the yard had standing water.

This was a light, powdery snow, albeit fairly deep for our neck of the woods, but the six inches of snow in my gauge melted down to only 0.55" of water content.

The back of the house is north-facing, and the patio receives a two-story accumulation of snow and ice from the roof.

It can be difficult to get out the back door of the house from time to time.
Nevertheless, once the snow melted, we see--undeterred and undamaged--a promise of Spring!
