Eureka Springs

Eureka Springs is located in scenic, mountainous north-central Arkansas. This overlook is named Inspiration Point.

The homes in the historic parts of the city are wedged onto precarious hillside sites. This is certainly NOT a destination with accessible features--the narrow stone sidewalks are steep and uneven, and of course completely charming.

Many of the homes are designed with unusual shapes to fit the building sites, and steep staircases inside and out provide access from the street. Not for the faint of heart!

Each of the springs has its own little park with lovingly planted and tended perennials and annuals. One or two of the springs had water fountains, but as these were fed by garden hoses, we decided not to 'take the waters.'

Eureka Springs also has one of the largest municipal parks in the States--Lake Leatherwood--1600 acres offering extensive hiking trails, fishing, boating, camping, and picnicking.

The kayaker in this picture is barely visible. This shot was taken from Fishing Trail, which circles the lake. A warning sign mentioned feral hogs (think Razorbacks) but failed to instruct what one was to do if confronted.

Historic Spring Street was lined with art galleries and interesting shops, (unlike Main Street, which had most of the bars and souvenir joints.) We tried a number of local restaurants (naturally avoiding the fast-food sort) and noted a few others for future patronage. Keels Creek Winery was a happy find as well.

  2. As you may surmise--I have done the same thing with a Bookmark. Unable to figure out how to 'fix' it, I just go to the same old post and then click on Home in the sidebar. Works for me!

Glad you are enjoying the posts--I am enjoying being able to share.
