Orchid

This plant was a gift from our realtor back in Ohio (the one who sold our home with its 8 acres on the Chagrin River.)  I thought it was kind of off-putting at first, but it has reliably set blooms year after year, and now it has grown on me.

I have no idea what kind of orchid this is.  Anyone?  Anyone?

  2. I go every year to the orchid show at the NC arboretum, and I've seen a lot of exotic orchids. This particular one, however, I don't recall ever seeing. I'm sure you could probably post the picture on some orchid group's website, and they could tell you right away. I think it's absolutely wonderful. If you ever find out the name, let me know.

  3. Our new word for the day: oncidium. A friend of a friend has identified this species for us. She mentions that some have fabulous scents; I have never detected a scent from this orchid, but I'll recheck...
